"Face & body will not last forever" - Payal Rohatgi Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 22, 2005 - 00:27 IST

After her runaway success with Tauba Tauba, Payal Rohatgi is the face of the uninhibited and bold Bollywood actress. Trying to find different elements in the similar roles that she is offered - Payal thinks that the actress in her is yet to be given the right break, till then she is happy working her way up. She speaks to IndiaFM about her career, future projects and her soon-to-be-released film Chetna - The Excitement.

Tell us something about your character in the film?
I am playing the title role Chetna; she is a business tycoon in Dubai, a self-made girl. She is very aggressive and she doesn't like 'no' for an answer. One day she falls for a married man and how she goes about her way to get him, is what Chetna is about.

How was the experience of working with Partho Ghosh?
Partho Ghosh is a very senior director and has done some great film before this. For me it was like working with a very experienced person, all his homework used to be ready. I used to come on the sets with all the breakdowns of the lines, how the dialogues are to be said and I used to be on my toes all the time, but all in all it was a good experience as we finished the entire film in 20-25 days.

How exciting is Chetna - The Excitement?
I don't know why the word excitement has been put, its just Chetna. All I can say is that you have always seen Payal Rohatgi in a glamorous role, in this movie the glamour is not stressed at; here she is a sophisticated woman. The thing that I like about this character is that she has got so much of anger that's something I found very great while shooting this film because I did not know that side of me that can be so negative also.

Why has Dubai been chosen as a setting for the film?
Dubai is there because the whole look and the richness of this character comes out that's why probably we have chosen Dubai as an outdoor location.

Don't you think the hot image of Tauba Tauba has got stuck with you?
The problem is that I had a hit with Tauba Tauba and that glamorous image has got established with me and all filmmakers want to make a hit film so that's why they cast me in only those roles. But I know that I am not modeling but acting and the face will not last for a long time. If you see from Tauba Tauba to Fun to Mazaa Mazaa, all the characters might be glamorous but then they all are very different characters. So in the glamorous image that I have I am doing the best of whatever is being offered to me.

Would you agree on the fact that most of the roles that are offered to you are just piling up your hot image and are not pushing your acting abilities ahead?
I have always maintained that I have started from scratch, I am not a star daughter whatever image I have I am happy that atleast I got a beginning. To grow as an actor I know I have to do variety of roles and now I am meeting filmmakers who are offering me roles that consist of more than mere skin show, because that alone doesn't work. So all I can say is that I have just started and give me time to be able to answer these questions.

What is the movie Chetna trying to convey?
It says that it is very difficult to break the institution of marriage, which I try to do in the film. I try my level best and use everything in my capacity to break up the couple by using my power, my money, my position, whether I succeed or not that you will have to see in the film.

Tell us something about the music of the film?
Daboo Malik has done the music, I have two songs in the film, one is on the beach, a casual chilling-out song and another is a romantic song. The songs go with the character, they are melodious and I hope they get popular.

What are your next releases?
I have quite a few films releasing, Chetna, Mazaa Mazaa, Men Not Allowed, Ek Se Mera Kya Hoga, all of them project me as a protagonist. And recently I have signed an Anil Sharma film where I have a totally deglamourised role.
