How Preity became 'Perky'… Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 13, 2005 - 06:14 IST

“I was asked to flash a dimpled smile”

Preity is on a nostalgia trip as we discuss how the actor landed her first commercial, her Perk commercial. “This was during my college days. Besides hanging out at the campus and throwing a few baskets, I was doing precious little” she giggles. “Around that time a friend of mine who was scripting commercials asked me to audition for the Perk commercial. I am quite bindaas and said why not. And there I was at the studio on a Monday morning” she recollects memories.

“I was here for a lark and my sole aim was to have as much fun as possible. But as the dress fittings were being done and my hair being fixed, I felt a slight alarm. But then told myself that it was no big deal and it wasn't like my life hung on this one shoot. But I guess I was wrong…” she says hinting at her present position.

“So while at the studio, I asked them for directions. But the camera guy quite surprised me when he walked up to me and said, “Don't try too hard, let go and be yourself'. The only brief given to me was 'First give an awkward look, then a happy one and then flash your dimples'. That was it; I just followed their instructions, keeping in mind that it had to look as natural as possible. And before I knew it, it was a wrap! This got me the Liril campaign which was an equally big hit. Must say it has been a rather 'Perky' start” she digs.
