Aryan: Promo Watch
By Gaurav Malani, April 9, 2005 - 07:21 IST
Cast: Sohail Khan, Sneha Ullal, Inder Kumar, Puneet Issar, Satish Shah, Supriya Karnik, Farida Jalal, Master Ahsaas Channa and Kapil Dev (sp.app).
Trailer duration: 2 minutes 55 seconds
The trailer opens on a grave note with Sohail Khan's voiceover where he talks about the title character of Aryan played by himself through the following line “Main ek Boxer banne ke liye paida hua hoon… aur iskey alawa naa main kuch soch sakta hoon naa banna chahta hoon”. Aryan is primarily a love story with a sport background. The tagline of the film reads 'A love story with a punch' and the pun(ch) lies in the fact that the film is based on boxing. Sohail Khan plays a sportsperson but not a cricketer (as one might usually associate an Indian athlete with). He is a boxer and wants to make his country proud in boxing.
The promo subsequently introduces Puneet Issar in a Sardar getup who plays Aryan's boxing coach. Inder Kumar makes an appearance displaying his torso, though that's justified as he plays Aryan's arrogant boxer opponent in the film. The last time the audience saw him bare-chested was in Tumko Na Bhool Payenge where he played Salman Khan's opponent. And the last time the audience saw him as a boxer was in Sanjay Dutt's Hathyar where he had a cameo. Lucky face Sneha Ullal plays Aryan's love interest (and here you won't get to see Aishwarya overtones in her).

Everybody discourages Aryan from taking up the sport, questioning him as to how will he make a living with boxing as a profession. How will he earn money? Also ego clashes crop up when her wife starts earning more than him. But Aryan argues back saying Kapil Dev didn't play cricket for money, Leander Paes doesn't play tennis for money, Dhanraj Pillay doesn't play hockey for money. It's their passion that comes from within.
Some beefy boxing action follows. The makers have reportedly got in a team from abroad to make it sure that the boxing scenes are shot fantastically. The last time Bollywood saw boxing onscreen was perhaps in Aamir Khan's Ghulam.
Kapil Dev makes a special appearance in the film and plays himself. As the film progresses, Aryan breaks from his sport. At this juncture Kapil Dev encourages him to get back to his passion. He is the turning point in this film. The trailer ends on the note of the spectators cheering up Aryan to stand up and fight for his dreams.
A Telebrands Productions, Aryan is directed by Abhishek Kapoor (nephew of Jeetendra) who started off as an actor some years ago.
