By IndiaFM News Bureau, February 16, 2005 - 01:30 IST
India's first super model Milind Soman made his debut in the film industry in the year 2000. Things haven't been quite bright since then but this ex-model is content drifting along at his pace doing his own thing in movie land. Soon to be released is his first big budget masala film Jurm. Speaking to IndiaFM, Milind shares secrets about Jurm and his experiences committing them.
All the roles you have played so far have been different from each other, what is your role in Jurm?
I am playing a lawyer. The story is that Bobby is charged with his wife's murder and his wife is Lara Dutta and I for some reason feel that he is innocent… the reason is something that I can't tell. So somehow I feel he is innocent and I try to defend him in the court and it is to be watched that whether he is innocent or guilty, and if he is innocent then who is the killer.
Lawyer sounds interesting…tell us more about the character.
(Laughs) he is a good lawyer. When he is like all lawyers… all of them have certain principles, every lawyer feels that the one who he is defending is true and right. And that the kind of lawyer I am in the film.
How was the experience while making the film?
Jurm is my first big budget commercial Hindi film, whatever films I have done before this have been a bit off beat like 16th December, Agni Varsha, Rules: Pyar Ka Superhit Formula, Tarkeeb, as compared to all of these Jurm is a big budget masala Bollywood film. Big star cast, a well-known director who has been quite successful with a lot of thrillers, but I did not feel something strange while working for this film, the atmosphere and environment was very comfortable.
How was the rapport with your co-stars?
The starcast that there is in the film, Bobby, Lara, Gul and me knew each other already before meeting on the sets. The comfort levels are also high, each artist knows what the other artist is doing, so it's a very comfortable experience.
You are working with Vikram Bhatt for the first time, how was the experience?
Vikram Bhatt's specialty is that he knows exactly what he wants from each scene, each frame and each character. Since he is so sure there is no room for confusion.
Is there a love triangle in the film?
Well there are a lot of triangles, quadrangles and circles in the film (laughs) well there is a lot of suspense, which I cant, tell you right now, you will get to know everything once the film is released.
How is the music of the film?
Anand Raaj Anand and Anu Malik have given the music and it touches every emotion of the film. When you listen to the album in every song there is a certain tension… so I think all the songs are very good, my personal favourite is a song called Rabba Rabba.
From your debut in 2000 to 2005 how much has Milind Soman grown as an actor?
I feel right from my first television performance A Mouthful Of Sky to my first Hindi serial Margarita and my first film Tarkeeb to my last film Rules- Pyaar Ka Superhit Formula, I personally feel that there is growth. Everybody I know in the industry, all the people that I know in audience or all the people who have come and told me that they can see a tremendous change. I have also tried to do different roles, different kind of films, so its not like I am playing the same roles again and again. In Hindi films it mostly happens that an actor plays a similar character in every film.
What are your expectations from the film?
I am very keen to see the film, I myself have not seen the film, when I heard the story I liked it a lot. Vikram is a fine director, all the actors are very good and all the scenes that I have done with them their performances have been very good, songs are good. What I feel is if the story and the director are good then the film definitely turns out well. The expectations are only that much that the audiences should like the film.
