'Things you didn't know about Garam Masala'

Venus Films' Garam Masala is the spiciest element of this Diwali. A lot has been talked and known about this film in the recent times. But now we present to you hot-n-spicy facts and trivia on the film that you might have not come across until you came across this feature.
- The makers of the movie had planned to make Garam Masala before Hungama. However, Akshay Kumar was busy shooting for other films and could not commit the dates that were required. Director Priyadarshan was sure he wanted Akshay Kumar for the male lead and hence Hungama and Hulchul were made in the interim.
- Also Saif Khan was approached to play the role, which went to John eventually. Saif could not commit the dates that were required. Since the makers had worked with John earlier in Elaan, he was signed on the dotted line.
- Garam Masala is Akshay Kumar's sixth film with Venus Records and Tapes while for John, it is his second movie.
- Model Lakshmi Pandit who won and lost her beauty crown a couple of years back was offered one of the lead roles. She was based in Bangalore then and had certain apprehensions, which proved to be her stumbling block.
- During a song picturisation in Mumbai, Akshay met with an accident and was injured in the head, resulting in a bleeding gash. However, he continued shooting without any problems.
- Akshay Kumar played a prank on Nargis during the shoot. Akshay had hired a man who was staring continuously at her and was stalking her right from the time she reported on the sets. At one point, the guy rushed towards her armed with a knife and Nargis screamed out in fear. It was only later that she learnt that the prank was staged by Akshay.
- Bangalore based Daisy Bopanna has made her film debut with a Kannada film Bimba directed by Kavitha Lankesh (who sued the producers of Pyaar Mein Twist for lifting his story). Her second South Indian film Bhagawan (in Telugu) has been released as well and she is looking forward to Rama Bhama Shama opposite Kamal Haasan apart from Garam Masala.
- The lead actress Rimii Sen has worked with John in Dhoom and Akshay in the to be released Deewane Hue Pagal and Phir Hera Pheri.
- Apart from Garam Masala, Paresh Rawal has essentially been a part of all of Priyadarshan's last six movies as well from Kabhi Na Kabhi, Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, Hera Pheri, Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar, Hungama to Hulchul.
- Priyadarshan introduced Rimmi Sen in Hungama and she stars in Priyadarshan's Kyon Ki as well.
- There was a movie titled Garam Masala way back in 1972 and that to was a comedy starring Mehmood, Bindu, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Ashok Kumar with Amitabh Bachchan in a guest appearance.
- This is the first time John Abraham is shifting from his intense image by attempting comedy.
- Producers Venus has produced Priyadarshan's last two films Hungama and Hulchul as well.
