Konkona and Irfan heading towards a Deadline
By IndiaFM News Bureau, September 27, 2005 - 10:00 IST
The audience can expect something sensible when Konkona Sen Sharma and Irrfan Khan are part of a movie. The ‘intelligent’ movie going audience now have something else to look forward to in the form of Deadline. That is what their next film has been titled. After the highly appreciated Page 3 and the festival film Chai, Paani, Etc, this is Konkona’s next movie. Irfan was last seen in Chocolate.
Directed by Tanveer Khan, who has earlier made the John-Bipasha starrer Madhoshi, the movie also stars Rajat Kapoor, Zakhir Hussain, Sandhya Mridul and a host of character actors. The movie has been titled so because it is a thriller and the title itself gives a feel of the suspense. The cast gives an idea about the film’s sensibility. Each of the actors are successful in their own right. Konkona is known to choose only performance-driven roles. Irfan on the other hand is also renowned for his intensity as an actor.
Since the production for the film is still under way, it is too early for the actors to reveal too much about their characters. “There is a deadline involved in the film. Something has to finish within the deadline. If it does not happen, some families will change forever,” says Irfan Khan. Further, he discloses the fact that his character has some negative shades. He also clarifies that the film is not based on the underworld. In fact, he plays a writer who kidnaps Konkona and Rajat Kapoor’s daughter in the movie. The ‘deadline’ in question is given by Irfan Khan to Konkona Sen Sharma.
At this point, even Konkona is apprehensive about revealing too much, as the film is in its nascent stage. ‘Intense’, ‘high-suspense’, ‘traumatic’, ‘panic’ and ‘fear’ are some of the adjectives she uses to describe the film. She plays a traumatized mother. Different shades to her character are revealed during the time of a crisis. Apart from that, she says, “Ask the director! I’m not allowed to say anything else.” We’ll leave it at that then.
In the director’s words, the film could be described as a “razor-edged thriller.” He promises that the audience will get to see great performances from the actors in the film. And it will be better than their expectations. We hope so to. Till then all we can do it wait.
