He is back after a hiatus of 15 years in Bollywood. His last produced film Hum was a runaway success starring Amitabh Bachchan. His latest venture Dil Jo Bhi Kahey is slated to release this September. Again starring Bachchan Sr, Romesh tells us about his relation with him and other aspects of his movie.
Your last production Hum just like DJBK was a family film. What is the film about and how different is it from Hum?
Both the movies are very different. DJBK is based on a cultural conflict. It is a love story where Karan Sharma and his mother Revathy have very different view-points. The conflict is represented via two generations- one is of the children while the other is of Revathy. Then there is Amitji who bridges the gap between the two. Karan loves Annabelle Wallace who is from England but Revathy is against the marriage due to some reasons.
How was the experience during the making of the film?
The experience was great and close to my heart since this was my first stint as a writer and director. I was fortunate that I had an experienced team working with me. The film including six songs were shot in 63 days in Sweden for three weeks, Mauritius for 40 days and a couple of days in Mumbai.
The film is a remake of your French serial CEST LA VIE. While Anabelle and Karan were part of the original cast, what made you choose Bhumika Chawla to complete the love triangle?
Bhumika is a very fine artist and she did much more than what was expected of her. Her role is very pivotal in the film.
What is Amitabh Bachchan’s role in the film?
As I said he is the head of the family. There are a lot of conflicts between the son and the mother. It is he who keeps both of them together. His acting is terrific and he says a lot even when he is silent.
What is your say on the music of the film?
The music is done by very experienced music directors Shankar-Ehsan-Loy and it is really good music. There is one melody and one beat and most of them are situational. They are treated within the scenes. I think everyone should enjoy the music.
Why the title Dil Jo Bhi Kahey?
