An item number without makeup!

Now that needs some serious guts, thankfully both Mickey Contractor & Ash have that aplenty. Kudos to Mickey for wanting to take a risqué route. And bouquets to Ash for believing that her lovable Parsi makeup artist could actually pull it off.
And we have none other than the devastating beauty to recall the incident for you, “Most makeup artists tend to go overboard doling up the stars when it comes to special events and item numbers. And here was Mickey suggesting that I do a no-makeup look for Kajara re! Adi (Aditya Chopra) had told me that this was supposed to be the highlight song of the film. I looked at Mickey with a crinkle on my face that suggested, ‘You must be nuts!’ but he kept insisting that we do it.
Finally when I agreed to do it, he drops another bomb, ‘Ash, lets avoid the base coat too’. That was it, since his Parsi genes precede him, I thought he had gone bonkers but the pest that he is kept goading me all day until I relented. My attitude was, ‘Let’s see what he does!’
I remember, the day I reported for the shoot, I said to myself, let him go on with his bizarre idea, I’ll quickly steal a basecoat before he starts working on my look. But to my ultimate horror, Mickey was already in my makeup room! He was readying his kit to start work and yes, he was still very stubborn about his no-makeup chant, “Mickey, you really want to do this?” I bargained with him one last time as he waited with a hairbrush in hand. “Trust me, it will work out great!” he assured me. That was it; I kept shut as his hands worked the magic. Moist kajal in my eyes and a lip gloss, this was my ‘look’ for the giant song that I was about to shoot
Today when compliments come pouring in for the song, I just marvel as to how could this man have imagined that we could carry off an item number without a trace of a makeup! Mike is magic, I maintain that.
We can testify to that Ash, when Gulzarsaab saw the film recently, this is what the lyricist par excellence remarked, “Ash has managed to capture the saucy coquettishness of her character superbly. Besides, she looks simply ethereal!”
