Iqbal makes Kapil Dev nostalgic Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, September 2, 2005 - 00:27 IST

A red eyed Kapil Dev was seen stepping out of the premiere of the latest movie that hit the nation’s silver screens. And the reason for the cricketer’s teary eyes was definitely not his special appearance in Iqbal. Seeing himself on screen is no big deal for this ace bowler. The truth is that Kapil Dev was moved to tears because of the emotional nature of ‘Iqbal’ that struck a chord somewhere deep down and brought back memories of his past.

Kapil felt that he identified with so many scenes in the film and it reminded him of the things either he or his cricketer friends had gone through in their younger days. The former cricketer recalls friends whose fathers were against them playing the game or those who had to hide their cricket whites and sports clippings so that their families were not aware of their involvement in the game.

Though Iqbal is centered on cricket Kapil is sure that absolutely anyone who has ever dreamt of becoming somebody some day will be able to connect with the film and be motivated. Iqbal will touch your heart because the story of a challenged boy’s dream to play for the Indian Cricket team is so real. But along with your dreams come the challenges and the struggles. So when asked about whether the conniving selection committee member (Girish Karand) as portrayed in Iqbal is found in real life as well, Kapil merely twisted the question around by voicing the fact that scheming characters are found in all fields so there is no need for people to point fingers singularly at cricket.

Kapil seems so moved at this point of time that it looks like he will do all he can to support his game and the film that is so near to his heart.
