The Aamir-Rehman factor
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 8, 2005 - 00:31 IST
They are prodigies. They are rare talent
They do far and few films
But what they do makes history
Aamir and A R Rehman are similar in more ways than one.
The two talents have come together for yet another time in Mangal Pandey. Rehman and Aamir earlier worked together in Deepa Mehta’s 1947 Earth, later in Aamir’s production, Lagaan. “Aamir was among the prime reason that I took on Lagaan. I admire the perfectionist in him” Rehman smiles and adds “He functions Hollywood style, where nothing is left to chance. When I am working with Aamir, I can be rest sure that the music will be promoted with great gusto. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with many films” the elusive musician laments.
“Ketan seems pretty happy with the way the music has turned for Mangal Pandey, I am not complaining either. Unlike my work for Bose, Kisna and Bhagat Singh, I hope the music for Mangal Pandey is well appreciated. But I am not too hassled because Aamir always stands by the music” Rehman tells us. Why this sudden skepticism about music promotion? we wonder. “Yes that is the case because I work really hard for the film and then when the music doesn’t reach its audiences, it’s disappointing. It happened with Kisna where the ballad ‘Hum hain Is Pal Yahan’ was used as a flaky background score. I thought that was being a tad unfair to the song” the maverick musician voices concern.
But Allah Rakha saab needn’t fret, from what we hear, Kailash Kher’s vigorous ‘Mangal, Mangal…’ chant is echoing in every household.
