By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 6, 2004 - 03:09 IST

Tell us something about Charas?
Charas is an action adventure film. Good guys v/s Bad guys sort of a film. In this film, both me and Jimmy are on a mission in search of someone and what we experience while fulfilling this mission is what the movie is all about. Basically it's an action adventure film.

How important is your role in the movie?
I play the role of a street-smart guide who leads Jimmy towards the mountains. This guide is not actually what he appears to be. He has his own past and in his pretext to justify his patriotism, he reaches a point where he actually meets his past and how he provides solutions is actually how the story proceeds. The story proceeds not at just one level because it comprises of 3 different stories of different individuals.

Who are your co-stars in the film?
Most of my scenes are shot with Jimmy Shergill. Hrishita Bhatt has been paired opposite me in the movie and Jimmy-Namrata have been paired together. Of course we also have Irfan working with us in this movie.

Which locations were selected for the movie?
We had been to Kasol - a small village where most of the shooting was completed. It took us 2 hours from Kulu-Manali to reach Kasol. We also shot in Mumbai and Delhi as well.

The locations where you had shot had farms of charas and ganja. Tell us something about your experience
During the shoot, the movie was titled as Yaara and not Charas so as to avoid the turmoil. Charas is freely available in Kasol and the foreigners consuming charas and ganja as shown in the movie are not the junior artistes but actually the ones who are the victims caught in this vicious circle. During the shooting, the scenario was such that charas was openly available at each and every corner of this small town, which was then regulated through strict police control.

We have heard that the story is about those foreigners who either go missing or face death once they are addicted to charas . Tell us something about it.
The story is totally different. The topic of charas is just the backdrop of the film. Actually the main characters in the film are not addicted to charas. It's the business of charas that runs in the backdrop showing the pathetic conditions of those addicted to it. Almost ninety percent of those addicted are foreigners who don't even bother to return to their destinations after falling prey to this life-threatening drug.

How was your experience working with Tigmanshu?
I had already seen Haasil and really appreciated the way he had directed the movie. He has his unique style of movie making and believes in realistic cinema. He intended making charas a commercial film with its unique aspect of realism and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him in the making of this film.

It was said that Haasil was a serious film. The same is being told about Charas. Kindly comment.
No.Charas is not at all a serious film. In fact it is an action oriented entertainment film. Charas is just the backdrop of the film and we are not trying to convey any message as such through this movie. It's a movie, which revolves around the stories of four different characters that you shall enjoy watching with friends.

Tell us something about the music of the film.
The music seems to be very apt as per the movie. The songs are very much a part of the movie and they create an atmosphere that is very conducive to the progression of the story.

What is the speciality of Charas?
Charas is an action oriented commercial film with lots of realism in it. It is an authentic movie that shall open up the realities of many unknown activities happening in front of us.

It seems that the movie is trying to give some message to our audience?
No. Not at all. We are not giving any sort of message in this movie. It's an entertaining film filled with fun and adventure.

What are your expectations from the movie?
You always have lots of expectations for every movie you work in. But ultimately the power lies with the audience. It all depends on how they judge the movie.

What films do you have in hand apart from Charas?
I am doing Yash Raj Films' Dhoom.
