Hrishita Bhatt speaks on 'Charas' Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 5, 2004 - 07:00 IST

Tell us something about Charas?
Charas is a film about drug trafficking. It's an action oriented commercial film, primarily a male dominated one but truly an entertainment film.

Tell us something about the story?
It's a film about drug trafficking. I shall not disclose anything further.

What is your role in the movie?
I am playing the character of Naina in the film. Naina is a strong girl, detached from everything, a tough girl who is with the men all the time. She is a mysterious girl who has got lots of shades to her character. Probably she would not disclose as to what is going on in her mind. One never knows as to what she is about to do.

Who are your co-stars in the film?
I am paired opposite Uday in the film. There are a lot of other actors in the film like Irfan, Jimmy, Namrata & Varun. I think a good team has been put together in the film.

Tell us something about the characters they are playing in the movie.
You better ask these guys about their roles in the movie. Actually the film is about drug trafficking. So I can't really tell you much about it.

Which locations were selected for the shoots?
Most of the shooting was completed in Kasol and Ladakh. Few shots were also canned in Mumbai.

The locations where you had shot had farms of charas and ganja. Can you please comment?
Yes. Kasol was selected as the most appropriate location to create a backdrop that would blend well with the look and feel of the film. Right from the scripting stage, Tigmanshu had Kasol in his mind because Kasol was a place that had farms of charas and ganja that would give his film a much more authentic look. Tigmanshu had actually observed their townships during the scripting stage to give the scenes more intrinsic look.

Tell us something about your experience at Kasol?
It was cool while shooting at Kasol. It's a beautiful place enriched with greenery and flowers. It's strange to see Switzerland cum Goa influence in Kasol mainly because of the influx of so many foreigners at this place.

It was said that Haasil was a serious film. The same is being said about Charas. Kindly comment.
Seriousness depends on how seriously you take it. Haasil was a more intense film rather than being termed serious and Charas definitely has intensity but on the whole it has a superb combination of action, drama and fun making it a good entertainment film.

Tell us something about the music of the film
Raju Singh has composed the music and Javed Akhtar has written the lyrics except for the title track, which has been written by Tigmanshu. The music of the film is so beautifully blended with its lyrics that it just seems to be very apt as per the requirement of the film.

How many songs have been picturised on you?
Bambhole and Raahe Lehraati Hai are the two songs picturised on me. My favourite is Bambhole.

Is there any item number in the movie?
There's no such item song in the movie but Bambhole is a celebration song.

What is the USP of Charas?
Script definitely is the USP of this movie. A strong script makes a good movie and a good movie needs a good music to support it. The songs of this movie go hand in hand with the script to make it a truly strong movie.

What are your expectations from the movie?
It's a good movie and I want people to watch this movie provided they don't get inspired to consume Charas. It's a cool film and definitely not a serious grey film as it appears through its name.

What films do you have in hand apart from Charas?
I am doing a film Friends For Ever and another film Kisna being directed by Subhash Ghai.
