“Shahid is a fabulous actor. I am just about okay” - Tulip Joshi Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, December 29, 2004 - 03:02 IST

She made a dream-debut in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, and then vanished from the Bollywood horizon to return with claps for her critically acclaimed performance in Matrubhoomi. After a lull, the dainty Tulip is now Sarah in Dil Maange More. In conversation with IndiaFM, the actress yaks about the film where she co-stars opposite Shahid Kapur.

Why the sudden vacuum? Where have you been?
I was very much around. After MYKSH, I wanted to do cinema that was real. I am not too fond of make-up roles. Authentic cinema is what I relate to most. That's when Matrubhoomi happened. I then took off for a year, did the round of festivals where the film was screened. I am now back.

Do you feel that a project like Matrubhoomi might possibly alienate you from the mainsteam Hindi cinema?
Not really. I think I have the dual qualities to fit the bill for both. Besides, Matrubhoomi was among the best that was offered to me post Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.

What is your take on your co-stars?
Shahid I think is a fabulous actor and will go places. Both Soha and Ayesha have come up with brilliant performances too. As for me, I think I am just about okay.

And what about your role?
I am Sarah in the film. She is a sales executive. She is levelheaded with a hint of vulnerability. Sarah also has an angel of mystery to her. That is what got me interested in the role.

What do you think is the trump card of Dil Maange More?
I think the casting is the high point of the film. The actors compliment each other extremely well.

Where has the film been shot?
We have shot in Bombay, Malaysia and Goa.

What brand of comedy does the film offer?
I think that the film will find appeal among the multiplex crowd.

Tell us the last film that cracked you up?
Clifford. Oscar is another all-time favorite.

Tell us about the music?
The music has shaped up well. My personal favorite has to be 'Aisa Deewana'.

Bollywood is seeing sex-skin splurge. How do you plan to tackle it?
Honestly, I don't really know. But I am not game for skin-show.

One actress you think is going to take the cake
Rani Mukherji for sure
