“The music of Hulchul stems from the script” - Priyadarshan
By IndiaFM News Bureau, November 24, 2004 - 03:06 IST
After opening his Bollywood innings with films like Kaala Paani, Gardish & Muskurahat, director Priyadarshan has taken a sudden U-turn and turned comedy samrat with hits like Hera Pheri and Hulchul under his belt.
IndiaFM talks to the low-profile director who spills the plot of his movie and guarantees a howlarious time when you leave theatres this Friday
Sir, what kind of HULCHUL have you created?
Hulchul is a situational comedy at the outset. The plot is about the clash of two families. And how a girl and a guy pretend love for each other which gives rise to some hilarious situations.
From whatever we have seen, Hulchul looks like a multi-starrer…
My film required various strong characters for which I approached many Bollywood actors. Thankfully they believed in the roles and agreed to the film. So, that has given a very good starcast for my film.
How did you zero it on Kareena Kapoor?
Well, I was looking for an actress who could manage comedy well. That's when I approached Kareena because I thought she could do a great job with it. And looking back now, I can think of nobody else to play Anjali.
Be it Rimii in Hungama or Kareena in Hulchul, the character Anjali always seems to be creating trouble in your films…
(Smiles) Is it? That you'll have to check with my writers who decide character names. But I think there is no deliberate attempt at repeating names. Its purely incidental.
Why did you pick up Vidyasagar for Hulchul's music?
I have worked with him earlier on a couple of my films in south. He's talented and a big name in Madras. So I suggested him to Ratan Jain and they picked him for the film. The best thing about Hulchul is that the music stems from the script itself.
Where has the film been shot?
We have shot on the outskirts of Pune to give the village look wherever required and used the set designs from Chennai. Also, have shot a couple of songs in Switzerland.
