“Shahwar's been a fantastic co-star” - Diana Hayden
By IndiaFM News Bureau, November 24, 2004 - 03:00 IST
Striking a commanding pose in a peacock blue sari is former Miss.World Diana Hayden. While rest of the beauty brigade flew to filmdom, the lady has been away in London taking theatre lessons. After testing bollywood waters in a cameo in Tehzeeb, Diana is set to take the plunge with Ab Bas.
In an interview with IndiaFM, the husky voice talks to us about the film. Directed by Rajesh Singh, the movie has a plot based on adultery.
What is Ab Bas about?
Not all couples have a “happy married” life. Ab Bas deals with one such couple.
Your character in particular…
I play the character of Soumya. She is a modern and an independent working woman. A model by profession, she is skeptical about marriage until she meets a handsome and dynamic guy and gets married. A marriage, home and a child, she slowly wakes up to realize that her husband is involved in an extra-marital affair.
What is the message your film is handing out?
See, a record of 50% married men engage in illicit affairs. My message to all the women is, please read the signs at the earliest. And when you find something fishy, steel yourself to say, “Ab Bas!”
Does the film also say 'Ab Bas!' to the women who partner the man in the affair?
Since it is the married man who is indulging in the affair, it is his responsibility to keep up the commitment to his marriage. The woman can't be held responsible.
What got you to sign on the dotted lines?
The subject got me interested. I loved the script. That apart, director Rajesh Singh has done a good job.
While others have flocked to films, you have made a late entry…
It's not about being late but a voluntary decision. I have been away in London learning Shakespearean theatre. Once I felt that I was capable of the art, I decided to join Bollywood.
Tell us about your director
Rajesh has been fabulous. He is articulate and knows to convey his thoughts and ideas in a precise manner.
How was co-star Shahwar Ali to work with?
Shahwar's been nothing short of fantastic!
