“Akshaye makes me look good in Hulchul!” - Kareena Kapoor

With a string of 5 releases, few have created more Hulchul than Kareena. This talent tower is now awaiting her forthcoming release that will tinkle in theatres this Friday. Hulchul will call it curtains for her Bollywood bag of films in 2004.
IndiaFM caught Kareena at the music launch where the spunky soul tells us what she thinks is best going to create Hulchul in the film…
Hulchul is a laugh-riot, so do we get to see you do a lot of comedy?
I'll like to clear that it's not me who is doing comedy in particular. Humor in Hulchul is incidental. The script is funny. There is no deliberate attempt or forced comedy. The screenplay throws up hilarious situations, which is what gives Hulchul its laughs.
How has the initial reaction to the film been?
Oh, I have been receiving lot of positive talk about the promos. Also people seem to like the Akshaye-Kareena pair. So the going's been good.
Comedy demands a great tuning between the co-stars. How was it to work with Akshaye?
Like I said, our pair has been well received which is wonderful for starters. Also, I feel Akshaye Khanna is probably the most powerful actor bollywood has seen. Irrespective of whether he is crying, laughing or romancing, he is a complete natural. And that is what makes the person sharing screen-space with him look good too. I did like to believe that it is because of Akshaye that I look good in Hulchul!
Tell us about the music…
Well, I would like to admit that the film has no chartbusters so to speak. The songs are very situational. And what people should really look forward to is the picturization of the songs which is very novel. Like there is this one particular track, Rafta-Rafta that has me and Akshaye fake love to each other throughout the song. You should watch it to believe it. It is simply hilarious!
Priyadarshan is almost a king of comedy, how did you like working with the southern master?
Oh, I have been this ardent admirer of Priyadarshan all through my life. I remember as a wide-eyed teenager, I watched 2 of his films, Gardish and Muskurahat. And I told myself that this was a director I have to work with someday. Hungama like all know was this huge hit and we hope Hulchul is a double doze of Hungama.
Are you comfortable with comedy?
I attempted comedy once before with K3G. Though it wasn't clich?comedy, it worked wonderfully well for me. So, I haven't shied away from comedy. Besides, Hulchul had a hilarious script for me.
What do you think will best work for Hulchul?
The fresh pairing is what will work wonders!
