"I hope to do a hat-trick with Priyanka in Aitraaz"- Akshay Kumar

This man's on a roll. 2004 saw Khakee, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and two forthcoming releases in Aitraaz & Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo. Akshay Kumar's career is shining big and bright. He may have traveled comedy, romance, drama, but his lean athletic built reminds us of the action star he debuted as.
The good looking star slip into a pre-release mode where he talks to IndiaFM about his role as Raj Malhotra who is caught in a game of deceit in this Abbas-Mustan thriller, Aitraaz.
You have had a terrific 2004, what do you think?
I would like to thank my well-wishers and family for this good run. It's due to them that I was fortunate to see such good time in my career.
What's your role in Aitraaz like?
I play Raj Malhotra who works in a telecomm company. A good job and a beautiful wife, his life looks beautiful until suddenly one day, his boss's wife accuses him of rape. The film shows the humiliation that the man has to undergo and due to the rock-solid support of his wife, he fights the odds.
You have worked with both Kareena & Priyanka. How did it feel to co-star with them once again?
I have done close to three films with Kareena. As for Priyanka, we have two hits backing us. With Aitraaz, I hope to do a hat trick.
Kareena is very fond of you. What do you think clicks between the two of you?
I have known Kareena since my Deedaar days, so my relation with her dates back to 1990. We enjoy a brilliant tuning. She is a beautiful girl and very spontaneous actress. With her around, you have to be constantly on your toes.
Priyanka & you make a neat pair too…
We look good together and share a great rapport. Guess, that makes us a good pair.
One fun thing that the three of you did…
Well since the temper of the film was quite serious and arid, there wasn't too much dhoom dhamaka on the sets.
Tell us one thing about both the beauties that not many know
Well, like I said Kareena is a very spontaneous actress. About Priyanka, well she has matured so much since her Andaaz days.
Aitraaz is touted as this big gun musical; pick a track that you like best?
I like the pre-interval song. It's a family oriented song featuring Kareena and me.
'Tu meri Mehbooba'' in Ajnabee and now 'Gela Gela…' Adnan is getting to be your voice. Comment.
Yeah…I guess we suit each other pretty well. His voice suits my persona and vice-versa. I am happy that the combination is working for us.
You & Abbas Mustan also make a great team…
That's right, Abbas-Mustan made their debut with Khiladi which was my first big hit. We then did Ajnabee together and now Aitraaz. It's wonderful to work with people who constantly try something different with you.
4 simultaneous release, you think people are gonna have an Aitraaz to this or they are gonna lap it all up?
We are aware that Aitraaz is pitched against biggies. But the film itself is very different, so there's no question of competing. Hope that the film does well.
Will we see you in an action frame in Anil Sharma's ATHWS?
It's a love story with a war backdrop. Not an out-and-out action but yes, the film does have action.
You are supposed to be great with newcomers, how was Divya Khosla to work with?
Divya is a beautiful girl for starters. And have to confess, she is 10 times better than me when I was a debutant! I wish her well.
Bewafaa is yet another biggie that your fans are keenly awaiting. What's your role like?
I play the role of a Canadian singer who is in love with Kareena, a married woman. The film is an emotional drama, in true Dharmesh Darshan style.
Since you play a Canadian singer, did you undergo any vocal training in particular?
I didn't take any special singing classes. But I have a lot of Canadian friends in Bally Sagoo and others whom I used as mild reference points.
You & Dharmesh share a brilliant work scene. How is it with Bewafaa?
I have a glorious relation with Dharmesh We work great together. Bewafaa was no different.
As a co-star of many movies, what is your opinion of Kareena's new 'sari look'?
I think of Kareena as a very beautiful woman. I guess she can carry off anything.
What do you look for in a role at his point in your career?
I am constantly looking for newer roles and characters.
From an action hero, to drama to comedy, you have done it all, but what is it that you enjoy most?
Comedy, it has to be.
