"My character Laloo acts dumb in the film" - Suniel Shetty

In an interview with IndiaFM, the star talks about his character in the film, that of a thief who tosses between diamonds and damsels.
How has the film shaped up?
Fabulous. I can safely say that it's a family film.
Can you sum up the plot for us?
The film is an action comedy. It revolves around the characters of Padmashree, Laloo, Prasad and Yadav. The foursome want to get hold of diamonds. And the chase takes them to Cape Town. The story takes a 'fun-on-the-run' route!
Which is the character that you portray?
I play Laloo in the film.
What is Laloo all about?
I play a petty thief who works for a don played by Sharat Saxena. He likes to play dumb while getting his work done. And women are his weakness. Woh Ladkiyon par latto hain…
Your character sports a new look in the film. Tell us about it…
Be it Main Hoon Na, Lakeer, or Rakht, I am very involved with the look of the character. In PLPY since the name is very Indian, we wanted to contrast it with an international look for the characters. So we sat down stylist Navin Shetty to create looks for all the characters. I wear an ultra-stylized look.
How did you guys decide on his title?
We approached Lalooji with the proposal of using his name for the film. He immediately okayed it. He's been the most popular politician across the Atlantic. A thorough gentleman, he has a fabulous sense of humor. It felt great meeting him.
Tell us about your director Mahesh Manjrekar?
Mahesh is brilliant. I ask him to show me the expression he wants in a particular scene and simply ape him. With Mahesh around, all I need to do is watch, learn and follow.

Be it Johnny, Mahesh or Masumeh, I had a blast shooting with each of them. Every single character is so well etched that they go hand-in-glove with each other.
How comfortable are you with comedy?
I have always enjoyed doing comedy. Earlier trade wasn't confident about having a Suniel Shetty do comedy. But now things have taken a U-turn and I am being flooded with good comic scripts.
What is the comic flavor of PLPY?
Ours is an action comedy. There is no chaddi-nada humor in the film. The comedy is fast-paced.
What about the music? Which is your favorite track?
I believe the film has phenomenal music. Be it Deewana Mastana or Chidiya or Jadoo Chala Hain. Each track has been treated differently, both musically and visually. Anand Raj Anand done a brilliant job. I like all of them.
