By IndiaFM News Bureau, October 18, 2004 - 07:33 IST
He is the comedy king of Bollywood. Be it the screen, shows or stage, Johnny Lever tickles your funny bone like nobody else. After two decades of entertaining junta, the funnyman is all set to bring laugh lines on your face with Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav.
The comedian chats with IndiaFM about this Mahesh Manjrekar rib tickler where he plays Yadav. Johnny bhai sports a funky look as he shares screen with Suniel Shetty and Masumeh.
It wouldn't be wrong to say that Bollywood's funny face is Johnny Lever. How has the journey been?
People have invested faith in me and I have managed to bag some good roles. Also the audiences have been very generous with their appreciation. So the journey has been good by far.
Among Padmashree, Laloo, Prasad, and Yadav which is your character?
I get to play Yadav.
Yadav ki khasiyat kya hain?
Yadav hakla hain. Also, I have a wacky look and a crazy-hairdo. They have spiked my hair, but it complements the character totally. The role is hatke as compared to the usual fare.
How does it feel to play a parallel role in the film?
Felt nice. My role was longer than what it would have been as a comedian. Which means I am there throughout the film. Also, I get to romance some lovely ladies!
What is the flavor of comedy in this film?
The pace of comedy is sharp. Ekdum cut-to-cut. Unlike others it isn't over-the-top.
How was Mahesh Manjrekar as a director?
Mahesh is great both as an actor and director. Also he has a speedy way of functioning which keeps time wastage to the minimum.
Whom would you say you share the best comic chemistry?
Be it Govinda or Kader Khan, I enjoy doing comedy with everybody. I think it's the script that creates the chemistry.
How would you explain PLPY to the audiences?
I like to call it a total entertainer!
