An interview with Vikram Bhatt Click here to add this article to My Clips

Director Vikram Bhatt has gone to shoot his next film in Malaysia and will be back in India only after the release of his latest film 'Aetbaar'. Excerpts from an interview with Bhatt a few hours before he left for Malaysia...

What is 'Aetbaar' all about?
The story is about a daughter torn between a possessive father and an obsessive boyfriend. It's inspired from so many instances and incidents that we read in newspapers about the youth getting carried away by this disco-pop culture. About young boys and girls who defy their parents and do not always make right decisions. Often you see that parents are against their son's or daughter's choice of life partners and many-a-times they are even right! The film is based on one line and that's 'Can you really trust the man or woman you love?' Don't you hear about married people who say they still don't know what their real spouses are like even after 10-15 years in marriage? There is always that veil of secrecy between those hidden skeletons in closet… 'Aetbaar' is about all that and more.

This is the first time you are working with megastar Amitabh Bachchan. How does it feel?
Yes, it's been a childhood dream to work with him. I mean every director and actor in this industry has a wish of working with him and I'm so happy mine just got fulfilled. I'm a big fan of his and have always had this picture of him in my mind, beating up goons, blood on his face, anger in his voice – of course, now he's no longer the same angry young man... he's older and I've made the film keeping that in mind.

What have you learnt working with Mr Bachchan?
Well, you learn all the time with him. He's not only a legend but an institution. This may be the first time I am working as director with him but I have worked with him earlier when I was assistant director to the late Mukul Anand. I have even learnt certain technical aspects among other things from him.

This is also the first time you are working with a corporate company... the Tatas. What's the corporate culture like? What are its advantages and disadvantages?
Well, there are only advantages of working with a corporate company like Tata Infomedia Limited and its film production division Cutting Edge Entertainment. Interestingly, the experience was really good. I have been extremely happy to get inputs from their creative producers; they are very astute and cinema-literate and are very organised in their functioning and that's only helped the film. I am also very happy that they are promoting the film very well.

So what do you consider the USPs of 'Aetbaar'?
For one, you will see a different Amitabh Bachchan, two because it has an interesting story line told very differently and three because of its a thrilling take on modern-day man-woman relationships.
