Jaane Hoga Kya? Click here to add this article to My Clips

By IndiaFM News Bureau, November 18, 2003 - 03:03 IST

Barring Shekar Kapoor’s Mr. India and Rakesh Roshan’s Koi Mil Gaya, the science fiction theme has almost always remained alien to Bollywood. But off lately, the success of KMG has kind of given a boost to ideas of new aspiring filmmakers who are finally daring to experiment with unusual subjects.

So here comes the sci-fi encounter of the third kind in Bollywood with prolific producer Alok Shrivastava’s upcoming venture Jaane Hoga Kya. And the fictional element here is cloning.

The story revolves round Aftab Shivdasani, who plays an intelligent scientist and wants to experiment on cloning. For this, he goes to the government and asks for help, but in return the government does not permit him to carry on with his tests. Now Aftab becomes so desperate that he sets up a secret lab with his friend and starts experimenting. Where his experiments lead him subsequently, forms the crux of the narrative. Rahul Dev plays a cop in the film, which also stars Bipasha Basu, Preeti Jhangiani, Paresh Rawal, Tinnu Anand, Sanjay Narvekar and yesteryear actress Zarina Wahab in strong characterizations.

Starting with a budget of 10 crores, it soon escalated to almost double of what was originally conceived with additional song picturisations. Songs on Aftab and Preeti have been specially shot in Goa and Thailand and one more with Bipasha was shot in Mumbai’s hi-tech nightclub Athena. Also for the laboratory, the producer had imported some phenomenal sets to give it a very realistic look.

The film has 3 national award winners associated with it – playback singer Shreya Ghosal, choreographer – Saroj Khan and art director Nitin Desai. Nikhil-Vinay have composed the music while debutante directors Glenn and Ankush have put in their best to make the film look most convincing.

Presently under its pre-production stage, Jaane Hoga Kya will, to a large extent, decide the fate of sci-fi films in Bollywood.
