Dear Farhan,
I’ve just come home from the premiere of Rock On and going by my reaction I’m sure you know how much I loved the film. What you don't know is the impact the film has had on me and it will on so many people from every age group.
During so many scenes I had tears in my eyes, not only because the scenes were emotional but because I was transported back to my college days. I was back with my friends, back with my closest friend Mihir Worah. Mihir Worah had a band, a band of which I was the manager ! Since I couldn’t sing or play a musical instrument, I was made the manager and compere of the band ! It took me right back to the dreams we all had in college, our aspirations, our aim to be something, to do something different. What those dreams and aspirations were, a lot of us didn’t know, but we knew that the life we wanted for ourselves was not going to be a typical 9 to 5 job !
I feel I’m fortunate and thank god and life, that I was, and am able to live my dream. What Rock On shows us, is that whenever in life we realize that we aren’t living our dream, we still can ! Its never too late to wake up and chase the life we feel we’ve missed. The film gives so much hope about unfulfilled dreams, about lost desires, about forgotten ambitions ! It will connect with so many people and on so many different levels.
And you Farhan ? You truly have once again shown us all what it is to live a complete life. You’ve played the character of Aditya Shroff with such realism and perfection that seeing you on screen, was not seeing a film or a performance, but watching the character come to life and seeing him live his life in front of us. Your dialogues were so true to life and natural. Congratulations to you, Ritesh, Gattu, Arjun, Purab, Luke, Prachi, Shabana, Koel and the entire team. Every one has performed so well. Each one had such wonderful scenes and they performed them so well and naturally. Arjun in every scene was so real I could feel his pain, Purab stole everyones heart, Luke was amazing, Prachi was terrific and Shabana brilliant, I know I’m running out of adjectives to praise the performances, I’m out of touch with reviewing, its been very long since I did Chalo Cinema, but you get what I’m trying to say, don't you ?
Last year I visited my friend Mihir Worah, in his house in Laguna Beach. Today’s he’s a successful investment banker with one of the leading firms in the world – that explains his house in Laguna beach; but the one thing that totally moved me was when he pulled out his guitar, and his son sat on the keyboards, and father and son played ‘Norwegian Wood’ for me; it was really hard for me to control my tears.
Rock On revived so many memories like that in my life, as I’m sure it will for so many others. Thank you Farhan for giving us this brilliant film.
