| The shocking images of the blasts in Jaipur really disturbed me. The shots of the little girl crying for her dead Ammi brought tears to my eyes. The images on TV continued, they kept getting more disturbing, we were reminded of how this was the 7th blast in 2 years. The 7th blast in 2 years ! That’s frightening! And then suddenly there was talk of the latest happenings in town on the party circuit, and of the turkish grand prix. Jaipur, the blast, the young girl were just another headline. I suddenly realized how immune we’ve become to hearing about blasts and terror attacks. This was suddenly more scary to me. In one way it really speaks wonders about our spirit, we don't give in to terror attacks and take to the streets the next day after a terror attack. We don't let our lives come to a standstill, we continue with our lives. We must. But shouldn’t we also spend a little time to condemn the attacks. Shouldn’t we spend a little more time in thinking about those who were directly and immediately affected by the attacks, those innocents who passed away. I’m not referring to the time spent on the headlines by the news channels or the print media, I’m referring to us as well, to each and every one of us. We all have a voice, we all have an opinion, we must express it, we must use our voice, we must act. We mustn’t let our spirit break – as we haven’t ever – but we must also not be silent when something like this happens. As a country, as a society it is of utmost importance that we speak up and act at times like this. When a society becomes immune to evil is when it’s a really scary time for all, this is something I know will never happen to us as a society, we’ve always had statesman, politicians, journalists and citizens who’ve stood up at times like this, lets aim to be them, lets aim to help them, lets aim to try and wipe little Subhana’s tears that are still asking for her Ammi. |
