    The First Blog
Wednesday, April 9, 2008
Hi,

A blog is quite interesting thing, and quite presumptuous too. Interesting because one feels it’s a nice way to keep in touch with your fans, and presumptuous to think you have fans ! I’d like to look at this blog as a way to express myself, my thoughts, and to get a reaction to them from anyone reading this blog. I believe unless we don't see or hear the reactions to our beliefs and thoughts its quite an island-ish existence.

This blog is not going to be a promotional blog for my forthcoming film, you know just by saying that I’m sort of promoting my film, but I believe that a film is best spoken about after the release. What’s the point of me going on about my film, when no one can react to it as they haven’t seen it? Its better to discuss a film after the release, but the problem most of the time is that, if the films a hit, the film-maker thinks he doesn’t need any more publicity and is busy holidaying somewhere. If the film is not a hit then he doesn’t want to face the public or media or anyone and is hiding somewhere. Ok, now here I’m being either very brave or optimistic, when I say that whatever the fate of my film, I will face all your questions, and the media’s, post release of my film. I just believe that’s the best way and that’s what I’ll do.

So if this blog is not going to be a promotional blog for my film, what’s it going to be about ? Well, I’d like it to organically develop through our conversations, and reactions to each other, but what I’d really like it to be is a place where we discuss cinema and express ourselves. Express ourselves about everything and anything going on.

Right now what I’d really like to say is today as an Industry we are standing at the crossroads. Along with the economic boom there’s a boom in the industry too, you all must’ve read about actors being offered, 25,30,35 crores for a film and films selling for 60,65,70 crores. These figures might go up further. Directors have already started asking for the moon and getting it too, other technicians will and should follow suit too. In all this I hope we don't lose sight of what we started out to do, make good films. When the reason for making films becomes money, a good film will never get made. To try and justify the fat fees, we should not start thinking of subjects we ‘think’ will sell or are ‘big’ subjects. To justify all those costs we shouldn’t add more costs in trying to make a ‘big’ film. Whenever there’s a hunger to achieve something the performance is always better, we have to be careful of not being so overfed that we get lazy, lazy in thought, not just action. I’m not a socialist saying there shouldn’t be more money for more success, quite the contrary, I will bargain very hard in this environment to get the best deal for myself. I’m just hoping we don't lose focus in all this. I’m just hoping we still continue to make films for all the right reasons, actually there’s always only one reason to make a film – you’ve got something you’re dying to say through that script, a thought, a story, anything. The money, will follow.

What’s important to remember,is money always gets over, good films last forever.
