Can I have my share of pie please?
Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Oh, I am loving the ongoing IPL!

I am seeing so much happening around me. There are dances, laser shows, fireworks, electric atmosphere, performers from across the globe showing their expertise on different forms of art, action heroes performing stunts, biggest stars of the country making their presence felt across with an entourage comprising of dozen odd family members and friends and last but not the least some really exciting cheer-girls. Hope my wife is not reading that ;-)

Oh yes, by the way, I also heard that in between all this, 22 players, two umpires and a referee also get together to have something called as a game of cricket running!

Call it 'tamasha', call it a 'glam event', call it a 'fair' in the running - I am loving it all! And why not? After all, all of this only helps in making one of my most exciting films ever - 'Jannat' - even more contemporary!

Contemporary, because it not just talks about the world of match fixing and bookies. It also talks a lot about how the entire game has been commercialized. Both legally and in the world of a few others - illegally!

We cheer along with everyone when things happen legally, as they are happening now. Everyone seems to be having his share of pie. Film stars are 'buying' cricket teams, industrialists are 'sponsoring' the event while having millions at stake, stars have been roped in as 'brand ambassadors' for their respective teams.

It's a full on show. And as I said earlier, I am loving it all!

The only question which haunts me, or rather Arjun, the character I portray in 'Jannat' - 'Can't I please have my share of pie too?'

So what if I have been tagged as a bookie, shouldn't I too be lauded for the effort that I put in the game. I 'deal' with number of people involved with the game. And hey, they are not just other bookies in the market around the globe or the 'match fixers' as you may want to name them or the so called 'underworld' which seemingly controls a lot which happens on and off the ground!

And if this wasn't enough, I also have to keep myself abreast with the performance (or the non-performance) of cricketers (and even umpires) on the ground. Kya karen, I have to make sure that I have the right clients on my roll. After all, not all of them play for the country. Some of them even play for....Well, let me not speak it all out. You would get an answer to lot of this and more in 'Jannat'.

After all I, Arjun, have so many secrets to keep close to my heart, lest it breaks my nexus.

A nexus which spreads across territories, across grounds, across boundaries, across religion.

They say I have sold my soul. Well, it's a way to look at things. What I do has been tagged as illegal in some parts of the world. If only it was legal, just like so much happening all around me, you never know I may have been termed as an entrepreneur!

And ya, even I may have come out in open with an entourage of mine, to openly support my team.

Not to forget, I would have certainly made a music video too! After all I do have a Midas touch when it comes to music videos, isn't it?

Emraan Hashmi
The Bhatt camp is known to have given the film industry many stars but the one who stands out among the current lot is none other than ‘Serial-Kisser’ Emraan Hashmi. He may not have had your typical chocolate boy looks but he did have the girls screaming for him as he made love to Mallika Sherawat in the smash hit Murder. He is also probably one of the few lucky actors whose songs become chartbusters irrespective of the fate of his films. This ‘Bad-Boy’ of Bollywood Ne Apni Adaaon Se Sabko Apna Aashiq Bana Diya. Currently looking forward to his new films like Jannat and Raaz 2,Bollywood Hungama brings you a chance to interact with Emraan Hashmi through his blog. So don’t miss this chance to read about Emraan Hashmi’s views on films and everything else under the sky, only on your favorite Bollywood website BollywoodHungama.com
