ITS TOUGH...THE TIMES WE ARE LIVING IN. FIGHTING A STIFLING INFLATION INDEX ON ONE HAND, A FUNDAMENDALIST BLOODBATH ON THE OTHER HAND, A GOVERNMENT BATTLING FOR WINNING CONFIDENCE VOTES ON ANOTHER HAND AND ON YET ANOTHER....NO, LIKE TOPOL SAID IN THE FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, THERE IS NO OTHER HAND. OUR HANDS ARE FULL AND WITH FEW ALTERNATIVES TO PREVENT THE ECONOMIC,POLITICAL AND SOCIAL DESTABILISATION OF THE NATION. AN OMAR ABDULLAH OR A RAHUL GANDHI ARE LIKE CANDLES IN THE WIND FIGHTING TO STAY ALIGHT.UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, WE CAN ONLY DO OUR POSITIVE BIT AND HOPE AND PRAY THAT BETTER SENSE PREVAILS AND THE NATION IS SPARED.
DOES THE VOLATILE SITUATION EVEN JUSTIFY A DETOUR INTO THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT?INSPITE OF THE CRUMBLING SCENARIO, SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT SURVIVE. THEY ARE PERHAPS THE ONLY SEMBLANCE OF SANITY AND SPIRIT OF TOGETHERNESS IN A WORLD FALLING APART. EVEN DURING THE TWO WORLD WARS, THE THEATRE AND CINEMA PROVIDED THE ONLY "ESCAPE" FROM REALITY. BUT STRANGELY, IT WAS REALITY THAT WAS REFLECTED IN FILMS OF THE ERA AND POST WAR. TODAY AN "AAMIR" HOLDS A MIRROR TO A SECTION OF SOCIETY AND A "KHUDA KE LIYE" DARES TO RAISE MORE INTROSPECTIVE ISSUES. BOTH FILMS HAVE BEEN SUBSCRIBED TO BY THE DISCERNING AUDIENCE. THOUGH NO FILM HAS EVER BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED WITH CREATING A REVOLUTION[BARUA'S DEVDAS, PLAYED BY SAIGAL WAS SEEN AS A DEFIANT YOUTH IN THE TIMES OF THE BRITISH RULE] IT OFTEN RAISES POSERS AND SPARKS OFF DEBATES ON AN EXISTING INFLAMMATORY SITUATION. THROUGH "RED ALERT...THE WAR WITHIN", I INTEND TO EXPLORE THE JOURNEY OF EACH ONE OF US, SITTING ON THE FENCE, AS OBSERVERS OF A MOVEMENT THAT CRIES OUT TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM. HOW JUSTIFIED ARE SUCH REVOLUTIONS? WILL HISTORY REMEMBER THE REDS AS REVOLUTIONARIES OR TERRORISTS. THESE ARE PERTINENT ISSUES RAISED IN A HAIR RAISING ADVENTURE OF ONE MAN WHO LIVED TO TELL THE TALE. CINEMA HAS ALWAYS MIRRORED SOCIETY NOT VICE VERSA. ITS QUITE DISTURBING TO READ A REPORT THAT THE AHMEDABAD BOMB BLASTS WERE INSPIRED BY THE FILM "CONTRACT". IF THAT'S THE CASE, THEN MOST FILMS SHOUT FROM THE ROOF TOPS ABOUT GOODNESS, SECULARISM AND OTHER IDEALS .WHY DOESNT SOCIETY PICK THAT UP? ..AND SO THE WAR WITHIN WAGES...WILL WE WIN THE WAR OR SUCCUMB IS THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION. |

The one word that doesn't exist in his dictionary is 'Impossible'. We are talking about the experimental and talented Anant Mahadevan, who shot to fame in the first frame of his life.Better known as 'Chintamani' from ADOS PADOS,'Purnaiya' in THE SWORD OF TIPU SULTAN,a role that established this man so firm that it seems like the Lord of Destiny must have personally asked him, the kind of lines he wishes to have on his palm!.
He made a splash in Bollywood with his films like Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar, Dil Maange More, Victoria No. 203 , Aksar, Aggar, Staying Alive and the forthcoming Anamika. Irrespective of the films’ fate at the B-O, his work never went unnoticed. No wonder, his ‘To Do’ list only talks of films, films and more films!
