Before my third edition, I owe an apology and thanks to Anthony, Samya, Karan, Godwin and Piyush for their patience and appreciation of my work. Could do with more healthy critics like you.
I was nestled in the magnificent mist of Lonavla [doubt if the heavens descend more breathtakingly on any other place on this planet] for the past 30 days filming my most ambitious project yet...Red Alert...the war within. Based on a true incident, we [my producers T P Aggarwal, Rahul Aggarwal and me] had opted for a brutally uncompromising approach to tell a human adventure just like it happened. And the experience has left me enriched and further charged to tackle cinema differently. With an ensemble cast like Sunil Shetty [the actor's involvement and dedication is something to experience] Sameera Reddy, Seema Biswas, Bhagyashree, Ayesha Dharker, Ashish Vidyarthi, Gulshan Grover, Makrand Deshpande, Vinod Khanna and Naseeruddin Shah, it was impossible not to be fighting fit, as each one of them approached their characters with a deep understanding that went beyond the realms of Hindi cinema.
Red Alert was also a maturing experience for me. Transcribing the unsaid portions of a script into visuals was an inspiring and exploratory process that redefined the magic of cinema for me. I realised that such scripts offered to bring more of the unsaid on screen thus going a step beyond the written word. At the end of the month, I realised I had developed a hermit like focus, virtually cutting myself off from everything and everybody while filming. It's a good feeling to have attempted something truly off the beaten track. If Red Alert works, then it could be the forerunner of a lot of challenging cinema I wish to tackle. The effort was initiated in a small way when I made Staying Alive that has now been selected for the Stuttgart film festival in July. These tokens of acknowledgement go a long way in telling a film person like me that there is light at the end of the tunnel...as long as one has the courage to traverse the dark corridor before that. |

The one word that doesn't exist in his dictionary is 'Impossible'. We are talking about the experimental and talented Anant Mahadevan, who shot to fame in the first frame of his life.Better known as 'Chintamani' from ADOS PADOS,'Purnaiya' in THE SWORD OF TIPU SULTAN,a role that established this man so firm that it seems like the Lord of Destiny must have personally asked him, the kind of lines he wishes to have on his palm!.
He made a splash in Bollywood with his films like Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar, Dil Maange More, Victoria No. 203 , Aksar, Aggar, Staying Alive and the forthcoming Anamika. Irrespective of the films’ fate at the B-O, his work never went unnoticed. No wonder, his ‘To Do’ list only talks of films, films and more films!
