And so on to my second blog in as many weeks....Alisha, Suhan, Pratik and Arun...Thanks for your thoughtful comments. It's indeed gratifying to learn that one's work is under the scanner of such watchful analyzers like you.
Every new release is like an examination and this week it's called Anamika. This is my sixth release and probably my biggest film to date. Shot in Bangkok, Bikaner and Bombay, the learning process I mentioned in my first blog, took over majorly and I have tried to give Anamika a visual, dramatic and performance sheen .This is a non flippant, un-Bollywood like approach and I hope the style and slickness appeals to the viewers. A romantic mystery, Anamika completes the trilogy of Aksar and Aggar.
I am often asked whether the fate of Dino's previous release Brahm would affect the prospects of Anamika. I do feel it's tad unfair to blame an actor wholly for a film's non performance. The reverse could also be true...even if Brahm was a hit, what's the guarantee that Anamika would succeed? Only if Anamika is worth its salt, would it be successful, irrespective of the star's past track record. Dino has been given a complete make over in Anamika and it's a "new improved Dino" as they say in the commercial parlance. Both Minissha and Koena have essayed the most challenging roles of their career and add to the surprise quotient of Anamika. After seeing a preview of the film, a viewer SMSed me to say that Anamika had a hangover and he felt haunted by it the next day too. That's what I think, would be the USP of the film...the ability to stay with you a little longer after you have left the cinema.
Anamika is experimental in many ways. It would be interesting to know if this kind of approach is accepted. As for the spectacle in the film, there's no let down. From a sandstorm in a desert to a burning palace, it has the works. That's where a director could do with a good Producer. Here's wishing you all a great summer vacation and happy viewing!! |

The one word that doesn't exist in his dictionary is 'Impossible'. We are talking about the experimental and talented Anant Mahadevan, who shot to fame in the first frame of his life.Better known as 'Chintamani' from ADOS PADOS,'Purnaiya' in THE SWORD OF TIPU SULTAN,a role that established this man so firm that it seems like the Lord of Destiny must have personally asked him, the kind of lines he wishes to have on his palm!.
He made a splash in Bollywood with his films like Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar, Dil Maange More, Victoria No. 203 , Aksar, Aggar, Staying Alive and the forthcoming Anamika. Irrespective of the films’ fate at the B-O, his work never went unnoticed. No wonder, his ‘To Do’ list only talks of films, films and more films!
Bollywood Hungama proudly presents Anant Mahadevan as he blogs, just about anything and everything under the sun! |
